The Emberá-Wounaan
Experience

Emberá-Wounaan Ejua So, Chagres National Park 2-3 nights

The Emberá and Wounaan peoples, guardians of the Ejua So Territory within Chagres National Park, offer a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in their rich ancestral traditions and pristine rainforest environment. Far from a typical tour, this mini-expedition invites you to paddle their waterways and trek through the lush rainforest, as their ancestors did for centuries, uncovering hidden waterfalls and learning about the ecosystem they protect. Engage with elders and local botanists to gain insights into traditional medicinal practices and the remarkable biodiversity of their homeland. Experience the rhythms of daily life, from crafting intricate weavings and carvings to understanding their sustainable survival strategies. Sleep in hammocks within traditional houses called “tambos,” elevated houses that echo their harmonious relationship with nature, while learning how their stewardship of Panama’s vital water resources safeguards the survival of the nation.
